Melissa Lott
I thought it would be fun to show you the photo of Melissa that I worked off. As you can see, I don't get hung up on a real likeness, I just want to add color and make art that would be fun to hang in your home and honor our pioneer foremothers.
Melissa was one of Joseph Smith's wives, she had 7 children, had a beautiful singing voice and ended up living in Lehi Utah. She must have had a lot of descendants because I get a lot of requests for paintings of her. There is an interesting story about her involvement in the Temple Lot case, but I won't go into it here. 24x24 acrylic on a handmade wood canvas

Jerusha and Lovinia Smith
I enjoyed painting Hyrum Smith's wife and their daughter Lovinia. This was a commission from a descendant that wanted paintings of her pioneer women ancestors. I love the idea of honoring these women, I could only find one rough sketch of Jerusha and one photo of Lovina. I hope these colorful and whimsical images that were painted in the "Forgotten Wives" style will start a conversation about these great women in our history, we have so much to learn from them. 8x10 watercolor.
