Secret Mormon Sex Lives art

A friend of mine asked me to do a painting for the cover of her book. I did this yesterday as a practice run but Karen loved it and put it up on her website. I have to admit, I love the loose raw look and bold colors, we'll see if we end up using this version or not.

Letti Dewey Campbell

This was a commission from some friends in St George. Lettie's regal beauty struck me. Usually photos from this era are drab and somber, but not this one.  I was concerned I might not be able to capture her essence, but I am thrilled with this painting and I hope Bob and Roseann are. 8x10 watercolor

Melissa Lott

I thought it would be fun to show you the photo of Melissa that I worked off.  As you can see, I  don't get hung up on a real likeness, I just want to add color and make art that would be fun to hang in your home and honor our pioneer foremothers.

Melissa was one of Joseph Smith's wives, she had 7 children, had a beautiful singing voice and ended up living in Lehi Utah. She must have had a lot of descendants because I get a lot of requests for paintings of her.  There is an interesting story about her involvement in the Temple Lot case, but I won't go into it here. 24x24 acrylic on a handmade wood canvas

A little watercolor for a good friend. She's selling the home she raised her family in, hopefully this painting will bring happy memories back.

Jerusha and Lovinia Smith

I enjoyed painting Hyrum Smith's wife and their daughter Lovinia.    This was a commission from a descendant that wanted paintings of her pioneer women ancestors.  I love the idea of honoring these women, I could only find one rough sketch of Jerusha and one photo of Lovina. I hope these colorful and whimsical images  that were painted in the "Forgotten Wives" style will start a conversation about these great women in our history, we have so much to learn from them. 8x10 watercolor.

Noa - Bev Jozwiak

I am taking a workshop from Bev, this was one of my pieces. Bev is one of my favorite artists, she is a great teacher too.
