Mormon Outlaw- Orrin Porter Rockwell

I took a break from painting Mormon women to paint Porter Rockwell. I have not read much about him, I've just heard the folklore about him being a body guard to J.S. And B.Y., and that he was called "The Destroying Angel of Mormondom" I did read one story that I found interesting about how J.S. told him he would be safe from his enemies if he never cut his hair, but he did cut his hair once to make a wig for Agnes Coolbrith when she lost her hair from typhoid fever.  Agnes was one of J.S.'s polygamous wives, I painted her as part of my Forgotten Wives collection.  24x24 acrylic on a wood canvas . I think this painting would be great in a cabin, or in a bar.

Mormon Outlaw - sunday sketch

I decided to sketch Porter Rockwell to see if I should do a large painting of him. I think I will!

Baby Nico

I did a  little watercolor sketch of Angie and Steve's baby. I believe this is after his first bath. He looks so happy and content all snuggled up in his little wrap. He is such a beautiful  baby. 4x6 watercolor

Zina Huntington Jacobs Young Smith

Zina is probably my favorite of Joseph's wives. I  highly recommend listening to her story on the Year of Polygamy podcast, or to read the chapter about her in Todd Compton's book " In Sacred Loneliness " I painted Zina holding a picture of her husband Henry Jacobs. Joseph and Brigham both married Zina while she was married to Henry. Henry wrote love letters to Zina all thru her life. Her story will rip your heart out.

This is an acrylic painting on a 24x24 wood canvas. I haven't decided on a title yet.
